we represented a client at birmingham magistrates court recently who had been charged with assaulting his former partner. He denied the offence stating it was an attempt by her to stop child care contact. We persuaded the prosecution to drop the case on the basis client agreed to a restraining order. This will now allow him to pursue child contact thro his family without having to contact his former partner, thereby reducing the risk of further allegations being made against him. Obviously client was happy to avoid being labelled a ‘woman beater’.
