One of our clients was recently prosecuted for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. He denied the allegation, stating that his girlfriend and he had been arguing but he had not assaulted her and that the allegation was made because she thought he was cheating on her (which, by the way, he wasn’t!!). Police were stating injured party had to attend the trial and she would get into trouble if she didn’t attend court. She wanted to retract her original complaint as she realised that client had not been cheating on her, but was fearful if she not attend trial she would be arrested and prosecuted for wasting police time. We managed to ensure the case was dropped against the client at the trial AND avoid the girlfriend being punished for not attending court.
