We recently represented a client who had been prosecuted by Solihull council about her child’s non school attendance. It was her second court case at BIrmingham magistrates court and this time she had been charged with the aggravated imprisonsble version of the offence. We represented our client for a nominal £50 as she was working and therefore not eligible for legal aid.
legal aid is often available in such cases where a client receives certain state benefits.
The guideline for this case was imprisonment in view of the second conviction.
We persuaded the court to impose a fine. Client happy.
